10 Year Projection
Below are some of the more alarming predictions you may be hearing from pundits or in the media:
WAR – yes, the war will continue, and defense resources will continue to be provided.
RESIGN – a president of the United States will resign.
UNEMPLOYMENT – during this time unemployment will double.
TAXES – taxation will triple.
INFLATION – we will see inflation increase 4 times.
OIL – a barrel of oil will increase 1000%.
FLAT – the Dow Jones will be flat for 10 years.
All of these are very dire predictions. Bleak, bleak, bleak!
These are all actually true for the 10-year period of 1972-1982.
Yes, let’s review.
WAR – Vietnam.
RESIGN – President Nixon resigns.
UNEMPLOYMENT – Rose from 4.9% in 1972 to 10% in 1982.
TAXES – 3x, highest bracket 70%.
INFLATION – Rose from 3.4% in 1972 to 13.3% in 1979.
OIL – Rose from $3.60 per barrel in 1972 to $37.42 per barrel in 1980.
FLAT – Dow Jones started at 1003 and ended at 1004 (almost flat).
And yet, $1,000,000 invested in the S&P 500 became $2,000,000 in 1982 per Intrinsic Investing.
I was in my beginning years in 1972 and made it through those 10 years. Now, here I am today, and issues seem worse. Yet, are they?
